Art on The Street is an effort put forth by the Downtown Cedar Rapid district that is working to increase the economic vitality and general attractiveness of downtown Cedar Rapids as a place to live, work, play, shop and visit.

Travel the USA and see how Cedar Rapids is honoring its hometown artist Grant Wood, who's most well known painting is "American Gothic".  Nowhere you may travel in the USA will amuse and inspire you with it's artistic puns like Cedar Rapids. All over town, there are twenty two murals, each with it's own twist on the classic "American Gothic". You will see everyone from Fred and Wilma Flintstone to Homer and Marge Simpson in that classic pitchfork pose!

These murals are truly worth the stop on your USA travels!

Another reason to travel the USA to Cedar Rapids is that the original "American Gothic” will be on display at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art September 10-December 9, 2005. This is a special homecoming trip for the painting by Grant Wood and will be the centerpiece of the exhibition titled “Grant Wood: The 5 Turner Alley Studio Years.” The exhibition will also be a celebration of the grand opening of a renovated studio where Grant Wood painted many pieces including the famous “American Gothic”. The studio can be found in a space above the carriage house next to Turner Funeral Home at 800 2nd Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.

If the family is looking for a little more than art when you travel the USA to Cedar Rapids, you will be pleasantly surprised there is much more to do. Take the family to the Science Station and have fun exploring one of the 130 hand on exhibits you will find. You can also travel the USA and visit Cedar Rapids IMAX theater, a guaranteed good time for the whole family.
