There is a popular bowling Alley right here in Tigard, Oregon that has great deals on bowling, but offers up a lot of family fun as well! The first time we visited Tigard Bowl, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Even though it seems cosmic bowling is becoming more and more popular, our family had ever experienced it before.
The first thing that impressed my Husband and I were the free pair of socks we all got with our shoe rentals. They came complete with a stitched logo advertising the bowling alley’s name. Of course the kids weren’t too worried about the socks. As far as they are all concerned, material things grow on trees just like money does.
After the new socks were on, and the shoes were exchanged a couple of times each for all three kids, it was time to pick out the balls. Yes, I said we had to exchange shoes sizes for every one of the kids. You’d think we’d have the sizes down by now, no wonder their tennis shoes get huge holes in the toes so quickly! It took about 20 minutes of ball touching, holding and feeling to get to the point where everyone was determined to argue who went first on the score sheet. That was squashed quickly with a growl from Dad, and we decided parents were first tonight, what a treat!
By this time the cosmic part of the bowling had not started yet, and as with any trip that has three kids present we were getting kind of stressed out. Not too long after that it was 7:00 and we had black lights! The music pumped hard, and the deejay took requests. Country, rap and everything else was played. We as parents decided we could handle one beer, and got some nachos for the kids to share. The nachos were like any others, but the price was pretty reasonable.
The most memorable part of the experience was definitely the lighting. At first, you don’t know which way is up, but you get used to it and the ball gets a little easier to aim. The table tops have little stars all over them that can only be seen in the black lights, and it really helped give the atmosphere a feeling of excitement. The colors used in the lighting throughout the lanes were fantastic as well, and most of the balls were neon so they really lit up while trying to catch the pins.
Everyone playing on the other lanes were very friendly and easy going; in fact we left having made a couple of new friends. After three games, we were exhausted. It was time to pack up the troops and head home. We loved bowling night so much, we make a point to do it at least once a month or more if we have the time. I recommend you take the time to check it out if you’re ever in town. It’s easily accessible from most all cities around Portland.
